FNFFD Official Contestant Rules & Regulations

 

The following are rules and regulations for participants in the Firemen’s Muster:

 

1.) All events are timed and Judges’ decisions are final.

2.) All teams are to be made up of 5 people and a piece of apparatus. A team consists of an officer, a driver, and 3 crew members. Driver must be a certified Driver Pump Operator.

3.) All teams will bring their own personal protection equipment consisting of 1 bunker jacket, 1 pair of bunker pants, 1 pair of suspenders, 1 pair of bunker boots, 1 Nomex hood, 1 helmet with NFPA approved eye protection, 1 pair of gloves, and SCBA with mask.

4.)   Events are open to all departments and agencies located in the Fairfax, Fauquier, Prince William, and Stafford Counties and Cities, Townships, and Government Organizations, located in these areas.

5.) Junior Departments are welcome to participate in any or all the events as long as they have a Certified Driver Operator.

6.) EVENTS

             A) Midnight Alarm: Time will start when the alarm sounds, and will end when all team members are on their piece of apparatus, seat belted in. Judges will inspect and make sure all PPE is fastened and buckled according to rules explained during the competition meeting. A 10 second penalty will be assessed for each infraction of the rules.

             B) Bucket Brigade: Time will start when the alarm sounds and will end when the container is filled to the marked line.

             C) Hose Relay: Time will start when alarm sounds, and will end when the final target is knocked down. Hose cannot be deployed until drafting operation is set up. All hoses must be tested and in good condition. All couplings must be tight and not leaking. Each leaking coupling will be charged a 10 second penalty. Participants will also be judged on their ability to work together as a team.

             D) Stretcher Relay:  Time will start when the alarm sounds, and will end when all team members cross the finish line. The event will consist of an obstacle course and a medical problem that has to be solved. The patient will then have to be carried over the finish line, by the entire team.

             E) Chief’s Apparatus Inspection. If you choose you may enter this inspection to see how your apparatus holds up to some of the toughest people in the county. You are awarded a trophy and bragging rights saying you got the best appearing apparatus in the NoVA region.

7.) There will be a contestant meeting at 9:00am.  Participants will be instructed on the rules and the line up will be set.

8.) Chief judging will be at 9:00 am while the officers are in the contestant’s meeting.
